Tim
Daley
Tim
has developed a practice in Family Law, Criminal Defence and Civil
Litigation, with a particular focus on family law matters. Tim
appears regularly in Nova Scotia Family and Provincial Courts, the
Nova Scotia Supreme Court and the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.
Tim was elected as 2nd
Vice President of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society commencing
June 2010. He will serve a three year term, becoming President of
the Society commencing in June 2012. In this position, Tim will
provide leadership to the governing body for lawyers in Nova Scotia
and working in the public interest to improve access to justice in
Nova Scotia.
Tim is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and, in his role of
2nd Vice President of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society will sit
on Bar Council, the governing body for lawyers in Nova Scotia, and
will sit on numerous committees in carrying out that work. In the
past he has served on Executive committee, Finance committee, Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee, Continuing Legal
Education Society Executive, Gender Equity Committee, Lawyers’ Fund
for Client Compensation Committee and was Chair of the Task Force on
Lawyer/Client Loans. He is currently a long-standing member of the
Professional Responsibility Complaints Investigation Committee and
now sits on the Family Law Standards Committee of the Nova Scotia
Barristers' Society.
He has served as the Secretary/Treasurer of
the Pictou County Bar Society for several years and is a Past
President of the Pictou County YM/YWCA. He has served on the Board
of New Leaf (an anger management program for men) and is a founding
member and current volunteer Facilitator in the Parent Education
Program through the Nova Scotia Family Court. Tim is a Mentor
through Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He has taught a Business Law
Course at St. Francis Xavier University and the Nova Scotia
Community College. He enjoys teaching public speaking and debating
to young students whenever he can.
Tim was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, and
it was there that he developed his skills as a public speaker and
debater. After moving to Nova Scotia he attended Halifax West High
School and Dalhousie University, ultimately graduating with his Law
Degree in 1991. While at Halifax West and Dalhousie University, Tim
established a reputation as a public speaker and debater, winning
multiple Provincial and National awards and receiving international
recognition.
After obtaining his Law Degree, Tim and his
family relocated to New Glasgow in search of a lifestyle that
offered a small, family-oriented community and the opportunity to
develop a thriving legal practice. He articled with a local firm and
was admitted to the Bar in 1992. He practiced with this firm until
1995.
In 1996 Tim set up his own practice in New
Glasgow and operated as a sole practitioner for one year. In 1997,
Tim joined with Frank DeMont to found the law firm Daley DeMont. In
2008 he joined the firm of Goodman MacDonald Patterson to form
GMPD Law where he practices today.
Tim is known for his sense of humor and total dedication to his
clients. He relishes the challenge of new areas of law and new
situations. Most of all, Tim prides himself on his family and can
relate to the impact of the law on others and their families.
