Edward Patterson
Ed has been practicing law since 1981. He has an extensive legal
background in criminal defence, business, wills, estates, real
property and other matters. In 1981 he was appointed as a per diem
Prosecutor to the Public Prosecution Service and continues to hold
this position. On behalf of the Provincial Crown he has prosecuted
virtually all forms of criminal code offences in Provincial, County
and Supreme Courts, the latter both before Judge alone and Judge and
Jury. In addition he has represented the Crown on related statutes
such as the inquiries under the Fatality Act. From the date of
coming into force of the Young Offenders Act, until 1991, he has
handled on a permanent part time basis, all Level I (under 15 years
of age) young offenders prosecution from initial contact with police
through to completion of file.
Since May, 1994, our firm has acted as Standing Agent for Federal
Director of Public Prosecution Service. In this capacity we provide
prosecutorial representation under approximately ten Federal
Statutes. Ed exclusively handles matters relating to the Controlled
Drugs and Substances Act, (formerly Narcotic Control Act and Food
and Drug Act.
Until recently, Ed provided legal advice and prosecutorial services
to local Municipal Units, the Towns of New Glasgow, Trenton,
Stellarton and Westville.
